Most everyone in Kentucky is gearing up or talking about the 139th Kentucky Derby which will take place this Saturday. Me? Not so much. The Derby has never held any real excitement for me and I have no interest in horse races...unless you think that by choosing a horse by jockey colors is really going to get you a win.
Anyway...The Derby is something that Kentucky is famous and well-known for. Roxy has been learning about the Derby all week in preschool. This morning, they will be having a stick horse derby for her preschool class. They were also assigned the task of making Derby hats at home to wear for their derby.
After trying to convince Roxy that she needed a Derby hat (which was met with several protests about princesses not wearing hats, only tiaras), I made a hat in the hopes that she would indeed wear it today.
I originally started out with only the ribbon and yellow flower, but Roxy took some interest and wanted some stickers and other decorations, too. This is the final hat.
I was able to snap a quick picture of Roxy in the hat:
And then she asked to take the hat off. Last I saw it, Russ put it in his car to deliver with Roxy to school. I can't wait to hear if she wore it and what other kids' hats looked like.
Happy Derby, y'all!
